Past is in the past, or is it?

Jim and I have been instrumental in setting up an E-Safety Steering Group in Highland. It’s a partnership group spanning Education Culture and Sport, Police, Child Protection and Voluntary Organisations.

What we are all commited to is ensuring that internet safety work is sustainable, balanced, based on evidence, age and stage appropriate, is included within CPD time and that whatever messages are delivered across Highland are consistent.

As Ewan says, we have one of the toughest gigs given our geography and diversity. We think we have a good strategy, consisting of parents/carers evenings, sessions with CfE Health and Wellbeing outcomes for pupils as part of the curriculum and a good ECS/ Multi-agency staff training programme that will give us a consistent way forward.

As Jim has highlighted, one of the things we have produced is a set of draft guidelines for new and probationer teachers in our authority. I just love this little clip, it’s spot on in terms of what we wouldn’t say to people in an offline world.

Social Networking in Plain English

If you’re like me and you like things explained simply then you’ll love this little movie!

The makers Common Craft also have little explanation movies for blogs, wikis, twitter etc. This movie was presented to delegates at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) training day. I shall probably use it too in the Internet Safety work we are developing in Highland.
