I’ve always admired the work of Dr Tanya Byron, her last report Safer Children in a Digital World, is one I’ve always referred to on any Internet Safety training in Highland. The report, to me, gave a well balanced response to enabling children and young people to use the internet and new forms of self-expression safely.
I’m pleased to hear that the recommendations of the Byron review have been adhered to. Gordon Brown today launched the ‘UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCISS). It seems that this is somewhat of a global breakthrough as no other country has developed a council that involves a co-ordinated approach to internet safety. Full press release is here
This is the first entry I received in our photo competition for Healthy Highland 2008! Every year we try to highlight some of the great events that have taken place in our school communities using an online photo gallery. The gallery www.ycphotogallery.co.uk uses pixelpost an opensource photoblog application which seems to be a great way to host photos and allow for strictly moderated comments in line with our e-safety policies.
Unfortunately, I’m having a few problems with spam comments being left, fortunately these don’t make the light of day as they need to be approved. I’m off today to work on the database to try and prevent this. If anyone knows of any other good simple secure photo hosting applications please let me know. But please do enjoy the photos…superb!
