Now here’s an idea..

Sugata Mitra shows how kids teach themselves..this is a really inspiring talk on TED.com which originated from LIFT07 in Switzerland. A few learning points for me..

We know now that primary school children are more au-fait with IT then some of their older siblings, yet, when it somes to buddying up, mentoring and peer support, we often put the older children with the younger ones, why not think about doing it the other way around when it comes to IT? Those who have been through my Internet Safety talks, know I talk about the fact that we have a generation of young people some of which are just leaving school now that have grown up with the internet from birth! The younger ones have grown up with web 2.0!

Sugata from his extensive studies in India, has made some great conclusions, some of which I think translate well for us working in large authorities that contain a mix of urban and rural areas.

Enjoy the presentation, let me know what you think.

I saw him present at Online Educa in Berlin last year. His presentation was superb. He was very entertaining as well as on the money with what he was saying. To think that one PC in a hole in a wall could lead to so much learning in a rural village where no-one had used a computer and then to compared that with how much the huge investments in ICTs has, or hasn’t impacted in learning in our country. Some real food for thought…
